As with many of these one-word prompts, the first thing that comes to mind is a song.
Believe in what your heart is saying
Hear the melody that’s playing
There’s no time to waste
There’s so much to celebrate
Believe in what you feel inside
And give your dreams the wings to fly
You have everything you need
If you just believe*
Why is it so much easier for children to believe in things? Santa, the Tooth Fairy, even Jesus? What changes as we become adults? Does the part of our brain that relies on logic take over (how in the world could Santa visit every single house in one night?) and push aside the part that simply relies on faith?
Or is it that our parents finally acknowledge to us that they are the ones putting gifts under the tree and our pillow? Or our friends on the playground find out the truth sooner than us and create an exclusive “there’s no such thing as Santa” club? (True story. My Christmas as a 6-year-old was miserable.)
Our belief in unseen things gets shattered. And we become cautious about ever believing in something radical ever again.
Maybe as adults we need to be more optimistic. To be open to crazy ideas. To allow ourselves to dream and ask “what if?” What if we pursued a job change? What if we took that long vacation together? What if God is real?
“Give your dreams the wings to fly.”
(now I’m going to go listen to Christmas music all day 🙂 )

That is a great question! Why is it easier for children to believe. And we are to have faith like a child!
