I woke up with a scratchy throat today. I figured something was going to hit me soon, my 1.5-year-old was a sneezing monster all day yesterday.
The first thing that I thought of when I got out of bed was HOT COFFEE. Usually I only think of coffee. But today I microwaved my cream a little bit before adding coffee because I wanted it HOT on my throat.
My big girls and husband are off to school, and the baby is still sleeping, and I’m thinking ahead to breakfast. Ugh. Nothing sounds good, not even my usual chocolate-fruit-protein-green-smoothie.
Would it be strange to have Ramen noodles for breakfast??
When we’re sick, we want comfort. It can come in many forms — cozy blankets, hot beverages, certain foods and smells, a hug and a snuggle. Things that make our bodies sigh and relax.
And that rest and relaxation is what our body needs in order to fight the sickness. Have you ever pushed your way through a cold, only to have it cling and hold on for what seems like forever? Sometimes we have to push through out of necessity (jobs, kids, etc don’t always allow rest), but when circumstances allow, a day off is truly beneficial.
Today I’ll be staying home all day. I’ll wash a few loads of laundry. I’ll snuggle and read lots of books with my daughter (as much as my voice allows). I’ll eat and drink hot things. I might even listen to Christmas music or take a nap.
What comforts do you indulge in when you aren’t feeling well?

I hope you indulged in that ramen. I’m learning how to comfort myself when I don’t feel good. It’s kind of a foreign thing, until fairly recently. I’ve started having a very hot cup of mint tea before bed, and I’m finding it quiets and comforts my mind and heart. I hope you feel better, soon.

Thanks! I did indulge — though I saved it for lunch. 🙂
