Tuesday. The most ordinary day of the week. It’s not back-to-work-Monday, or hump-day-Wednesday, or Friday-eve-Thursday, or Friday, or the weekend. Tuesday is as ordinary as it gets.
It’s a common day. We have one every seven days after all. You can always count on plain-ol’-boring Tuesday to come around.
Emily P. Freeman’s book Simply Tuesday is a favorite of mine. In the book, she encourages us to notice those common, small moments of our lives — that often appear on Tuesdays.
What are some of your common moments — in your home, your work, your people, your soul — that you might actually stop and notice today? Go ahead and stop right now, and take a look around the place you’re in.
Here’s what I see on this simple, common Tuesday:
- A new-to-me $5 lamp from Goodwill, perched on the corner of the piano, highlighting a basket of pine cones
- Scattered books and magazines on the bench in front of the window, that my oldest girls forgot to pick up last night
- Dirty dishes in the sink that were used to feed my family
- A meal plan hanging on the kitchen wall, that includes quesadillas for dinner tonight, because every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday in our house
So what common things do you notice? Share in the comments below, and if you’re in Instagram, post a picture there using Emily’s hashtag #itssimplyTuesday and tagging me @carrieroer so I can enjoy your common moments too!
31Days of Five Minute Free Writes is a participation in Write31Days, which takes place every October. See the rest of my craft-practicing posts linked up here.
Are you signed up for my monthly email newsletter? It goes out the last Monday of each month (October 29 is next week!) and includes links to what I’ve written in the past month, links to other people’s posts about seeking simplicity and rest, maybe a giveaway here and there… I purposely keep it pretty short, as I value your time.
