I saw the quote above from Sarah Bessey on Instagram the other day. I’ll admit I looked up the meaning of the word subversive — dictionary.com defines it as “tending or intending to subvert or overthrow, destroy, or undermine an established or existing system.”
Pretty strong language to use alongside “hope.”
Yet think about the things you hope for… The kids to behave better today than yesterday. The budget to stretch as far as it needs to this month. The sickness to go away.
All is not as it should be. Our world is broken.
We can sit back and lament and grieve — a good practice when done thoughtfully — but then we press forward because of hope. We have hope that things will change. And we can even initiate the change.
Hope is defined at dictionary.com as “the feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best.”
It isn’t easy, but we all need to practice developing a little hope in our lives. Can you imagine what our world would be like if it was filled with more optimistic instead of pessimistic people?
What is one situation dragging you down today that you could 1) admit it isn’t as it should be, 2) change your thinking to be more hopeful that your situation can change, and 3) imagine an action step to initiate that change?
