It takes practice to become skilled at something. Playing an instrument, cooking, running… writing.
I’ve known for quite some time I wanted to participate in Write31Days this October (on my former book blog, I almost completed FOUR years!). For the past two months I’ve been turning over ideas in my head, jotting things down in Evernote, and hemming and hawing over what my topic should be.
Do I find a niche within simplicity and rest? But what if I get burned out or run out of words? Do I micro-blog on Instagram? But I really want to direct traffic here. Do I run an Instagram challenge, with a theme for photos each day? This is so tempting — I love IG — but what I really need is to practice my writing craft.
And that is how I arrived at simply participating in Kate Motaung’s 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes. I love writing for Five Minute Friday whenever I can, as I don’t have to come up with a topic to write about (one of the hardest steps for me currently!).
So this month, while it might seem my writing is all over the place, it’s done purposefully — to encourage me to write daily, with the first step (a topic) already taken care of. My prayer is that this will kick-start my writing routine and flex my muscles, so that once the month is finished I can take off the training wheels and easily continue on.
This post will serve as a landing page for the month. Each day I’ll link here what I’ve written. Thanks for joining me in this journey!

Yes Carrie, this is an amazing opportunity to “flex our writing muscles”. I’m very excited for this journey with you. Sounds like you have some good ideas!! (FMF #9 spot)

I agree, this challenge is a good way to flex those writing muscles. I haven’t blogged much in quite a while and this seemed a simple (not overwhelming) way to get some writing practice in again. I love instagram, too, but I just can’t seem to give up blogging completely! Looking forward to reading more from you 🙂 Visiting you from the 31 Day Challenge.

I agree with you I haven’t done any writing and when I write it is all over the page. This is good writing practice for me.
